Credit for Prior Learning
If you have any questions regarding placement based on your AP, CLEP, IB scores, or Seal of Biliteracy, please reach out to mlangadvising@k-state.edu.
Please note:
- Students placing into a higher level and successfully completing the course with a "C" or better, are eligible to apply for free retroactive credit for the preceding course in the language sequence (1 through 4), on a "take one class/receive credit for one class" basis, thus completing the language course sequence quicker, allowing them to fulfill the K-State Core #6 Arts & Humanities or #7 - Free Electives.
You can also transfer language credit from another college, please visit K-State Transfer Information page. Information regarding AP, CLEP, IB and other credits for prior learning presented below can be found through the Admission's website: Advanced Test Credit.
Earning a Seal of Biliteracy Certificate does not automatically grant college language credit. However, it does provide advanced placement within the language sequence, allowing students to begin at a higher course level and become eligible for retroactive credit for prior learning. Although credit is not awarded at the time the Seal is earned, students in both categories may receive free retroactive credit for the lower-level language courses they have effectively bypassed (Levels 1–3 or 1–4). Retroactive credit is awarded after successful completion of the corresponding advanced language course at K-State, on a one-course-for-one-course basis.
